Autobiography, 1858-ca. 1870.

Handwritten autobiography with photocopies of the item. Gardner was born in Scotland and moved to Canada with his family. He married in 1839 and later sacrificed his business to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1845. He went to Nauvoo, Illinois, and migrated to Utah with the Mormons in 1847. Also included are what seem to be financial notes from the years 1858 to 1862. The date of the composition of the autobiography is unknown.

Archibald Gardner (1815-1902) was born in Kilsyth, Scotland, and emigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1822. He started a grist mill and saw mill in Alvinston, Ontario, but left Canada in 1846 after joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and other Mormons fleeing Canada met with American Mormons at Winter Quarters, Nebraska, and arrived in Salt Lake City in 1847.
